Why I Chose to Teach Bead-Weaving
I first learnt bead-weaving on my own—watching countless YouTube videos, rewinding, pausing, trying again. I’ve always loved making things with my hands, but even with the internet, I often wished someone could just sit with me and say, “Try it this way instead” or i could call someone to figure out the best way to do it.
Every craft has its tiny tips and tricks. Things that may seem small—how you hold the thread, what beads to use or how tightly you pull, how you finish off your piece—can make a huge difference to how polished your final jewelry looks.
That’s why I wanted to teach. Not just to pass on techniques, but to help others create pieces that feel flawless, professional, and entirely their own. Over a period i have taught more than 100+ women to bead and pick up a hobby that makes them happy. And in doing so i have also learnt a whole lot of patience and knowledge.
The Workshop: A Snapshot
-
Format: 2-day online workshop (live sessions)
-
Participants: 7 women from different backgrounds
-
What we provide: A full kit with all necessary materials
-
What they learned: Three bead-weaving stitches (brick, and ladder, fringe), how to design their own pattern, and how to finish a handmade pair of earrings.
What Moved Me Most
As an instructor, what surprised and moved me wasn’t just what they made—it was how determined they were to finish it, even when it got tough. Some found it easy, others struggled. But not once did I see anyone give up. And I realised: part of my role was to keep encouraging them—to help them believe they could do this.
In every group, there are fast learners and slower ones. But attention needs to go to both. It takes patience to teach, and even more to let someone find their rhythm without rushing them. Seeing someone who was struggling hold up a finished earring with pride? That moment makes all the effort worthwhile.
Why Bead-Weaving Feels Like More Than Just Craft
Bead-weaving is slow. It’s repetitive. But it’s also incredibly grounding. You sit still. Your hands move with purpose. Your eyes focus on one small bead at a time and then on the pattern. And in that rhythm, something shifts—you begin to breathe differently. This isn’t just a personal feeling—science backs it up. Studies show that engaging in repetitive hand movements—like knitting, weaving, or beadwork—can lead to a state of flow, a meditative state that helps reduce stress and anxiety.
Bead-weaving, in particular, demands a gentle concentration. The bead is small, your thread is thin, the needle delicate. You can’t rush it. It asks you to slow down—and in today’s world, that in itself is healing.
So when our participants held up their finished earrings, there was more than pride—it was a kind of peace. A pause in their everyday life where they made something beautiful with care and intention.
What’s Next?
This was just the beginning. We’re planning more bead-weaving and jewelry making workshops—maybe theme-based but always grounded in sharing knowledge and creative joy.
